According to a Facebook post from Adam Kokesh of “Adam vs. The Man” fame, veterans and active duty troops will march on the White House in support of Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX), a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, on February 20th, 2012. The march will be led by Mr. Kokesh and Nathan Cox, the founder of Veterans for Ron Paul 2012.
According to Kokesh’s post, veterans and active duty troops will march from the Washington Monument to the White House. The marchers will salute a “folded American flag [...] for as many seconds as troops have died under the Presidency of Barrack Obama.”
Mr. Kokesh writes that the “purpose of this event is to make it clear to the American people that Ron Paul is the choice of the troops and the candidate who will receive the greatest support from those he would lead as commander-in-chief.” The march organizers will reportedly require proof of service from current or former military personnel who want to participate in the march.
Mr. Paul’s popularity among members of the military is evidenced by the number of active members of the military who donate to his campaign. Mr. Paul led his fellow GOP candidates and President Barack Obama in donations from active members of the military in the the 3Q 2011. In fact, Mr. Paul raised more money from active members of the military than all of his fellow GOP competitors combined.
Mr. Paul went after former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at the ABC News/ St. Anselm debate over military service Saturday night. “I think people who don’t serve when they could and they get three or four or even five deferments [...] have no right to send our kids off to war,” Mr. Paul professed. “I’m trying to stop the wars, but at least, you know, I went when they called me up,” Mr. Paul added.
